At Breaking the Power of Trauma, everything we do comes from a very real place. This isn’t something we’ve built solely from theory or textbooks. It’s grown out of lived experience, from understanding how trauma can shape a person’s life and how difficult it can be to find a way forward.
We started this group because we saw how many people were struggling quietly, often without the support they needed. Some were dealing with trauma, some were facing hardship, and many simply needed a safe space where they could feel seen and heard. We wanted to create something different. A place where people could come as they are, without judgement, and begin to rebuild at their own pace.
We are based in Watton and regularly support people in Carbrooke. Everything we offer is completely free. We believe support should never be out of reach for those who need it most.
A big part of what we do centres around creativity. Art and craft can be incredibly powerful tools for healing. Our founder, Jan, has been drawing for over 20 years and has always found it a way to process and cope with trauma. That personal experience is at the heart of what we offer. By sharing these creative outlets with others, we aim to help people express themselves, find some calm, and begin to grow in their own way.
Alongside this, we also provide practical support. We understand that for many, the challenges go beyond emotional wellbeing. That’s why we help with food and clothing wherever we can. Jan has spent years working with charities and supporting homeless communities, always doing what she can to help those in need. That same approach continues here.
Jan holds MASC (A.C.D) and City and Guilds qualifications, as well as a Certificate in Education (CertEd). More importantly, she brings compassion, understanding, and a genuine commitment to helping others move forward.
Breaking the Power of Trauma is not just a group. It’s a community. A place where people can feel supported, find their strength again, and take steps towards a better future, together.
