At Breaking the Power of Trauma, we offer a safe and supportive space for people who may be struggling with trauma, anxiety, isolation, grief, or difficult life experiences. Everything we do is free, and if you take one of the art and craft sessions, you get to take your creations home.
Creative activities are at the heart of our group. We run arts and crafts sessions where people can take time out from everyday pressures, focus their minds, and express themselves in a safe environment.
For many people living with trauma, talking about emotions can feel overwhelming or impossible at times. Art offers another way to communicate feelings that are difficult to put into words. Research into art therapy has shown that creative activities can help reduce symptoms of trauma, anxiety and depression, while also improving confidence, emotional resilience and self-esteem.
We have seen firsthand how creativity can help people slowly rebuild confidence and reconnect with themselves. Sometimes it starts with something as simple as picking up a pencil, painting a picture, or making something with your hands. Over time, these small steps can help people feel calmer, more grounded and more hopeful.
These sessions are designed to help individuals explore emotions, experiences, and memories in a gentle and supportive way.
Studies have shown that trauma is often stored in the brain in ways that are difficult to access through conversation alone. Creative expression can help people process feelings safely, improve emotional regulation and regain a sense of control over their lives.
There is no pressure to be artistic and no judgement. It is never about creating the “perfect” piece of art. It is about expression, healing and personal growth.
Words can be powerful. Through poetry and creative writing, we encourage people to express thoughts and feelings they may have kept hidden for years.
Writing can help people reflect on their experiences, release emotions, and feel heard. Some members prefer to write privately, while others gain confidence through sharing with the group. We create a calm and understanding atmosphere where everyone is respected and supported at their own pace.
We know that trauma and hardship often go hand in hand. Some people who come to us may also be struggling financially or simply finding everyday life difficult to manage.
That’s why we also provide practical support, including food and clothing, whenever possible. Nobody should have to face difficult times alone or go without essentials. We help where we can, whether that means offering warm clothing, food support, or simply a friendly face and a hot drink.
More than anything, we want people to know they are not alone. Our group is about support, understanding and helping people rediscover their confidence and self-worth.
Healing does not happen overnight, but with the right support, creativity, kindness and community can make a real difference. At Breaking the Power of Trauma, we walk alongside people on that journey, helping them grow, heal and move forward one step at a time.
